FIRST GAME TONIGHT AT 7:00PM AT POETRY BAPTIST!!!!
WE ALSO CALL THE 2ND GAME!
COME IF YOU CAN.....
Also - personal note: Jim Mullen played with our team as
long as he could before his cancer just wouldn't allow him
to. I think it would be a good idea to buy one extra
team shirt with his name on it to give to the family, or just place
with Jim as we lay him to rest.
Let me know what you think....
And once again - if any of you have any stories that you could
write up about him, please let me know and have those! His
family, especially his sons, would like to have them. The
didn't really grow up with Jim around, so anything we could share
about him with them, they would truly love it!
Thanks,
Larry

Again, just to let you know, play begins on January 28th (we
should be getting our schedule shortly and will let you know when
& where as soon as possible).
Paul would like to start practicing THIS SUNDAY (Jan. 20th) at
2:00pm in our pavilion! Come and join us!!!
If you did not play last time, then you don't have the COLLEGE
MOUND UMC VOLLEYBALL SHIRT!!! If you intend to play this time
around - let us know so that we can get a shirt made for
you!!!
Also - just to make sure you know you're invited.....the new
Sunday School Class that meets in the fellowship hall has started a
new subject: FAITH!!! Come and join us!!!
Remember - to play volleyball, you need to be ACTIVE in
church!!! So see you in church school or church OR
BOTH!!!!!
Take Care,
Larry
From Larry, 1/5/08
If you pull up the attachment, you'll see our first
organizational meeting of the league will be this coming Monday at
1st Christian Church at 7:00pm. We don't need a lot of people
there, but the subject of rule changes, fees, etc. will come up - so
if you have any of those concerns, you need to be there to discuss
them (or email them to Abby).
And as always - feel free to play volleyball in their gym after
the meeting!
We might also want to discuss and see if our team wants to stay
in a middle gym or move back down to the lower gym. Although
being where you were (and the practices on Sunday at the pavilion)
did make you improve!!!
The meeting on the 2nd week is MANDATORY for us to turn in a
team (or teams) to play! That is also the time that a vote
will be taken on rule changes (if any). We MUST have a
representative at that meeting!
Play will begin on January 28th - so if you know of anyone that
meets the requirements (is a member of College Mound UMC, or attends
here regularly and has not yet joined...WHY NOT!!!...and is out of
high school - then they can play on our team! Remember it
ALWAYS gets kinda of SLACK at the end of the season....so if you
COMMIT to play - then STAY WITH IT! That's not to say that you
will miss games - we all do...but try to be there when you
can.... And, we also share the calling duties so that no one
or two or three have to do it every time!
So here's for a new season of volleyball, fun, and
EXERCISE!!! If not down-right HUMOR!!!

BE IN THE PLAY!!! We NEED and we WANT "children of any
age"!!!
We'll also
begin our Choir's practice for their Christmas Musical - so now is
the time to come and join your Choir and help them out for this very
special time in the life of our church!!! Choir practice will
be at 6:30pm (or immediately following the evening vespers
service).
We also
invite you to bring your favorite CHRISTMAS PARTY FOODS for our
snack supper tonight at 5:30pm in the fellowship hall! Use
your imagination here and your good taste!!! Dena always liked
"sausage balls" - but since she's a vegetarian now, I'll have to
make them without "real" sausage!!! You bring whatever is your
favorite Christmas Party Food!!!!
Practice will
be every Sunday at 4:30pm for our Christmas Play, and at 6:30pm for
Choir practice!!! Come and join
us!!!
Guess
what?!?!?! BOTH VOLLEYBALL TEAMS WON LAST MONDAY
NIGHT!!! Team 2 played at the TCA (Terrell Christian Academy)
Gym and won in two games! Team 1 played at the 1st Baptist
Church Gym and played three pretty hard games to finally come out
with a V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!!! Ya'll come on out and watch our
games!!! Team 2 will play this week at 7:00pm and Team 1 will
again play at 8:30pm!!!
Our Tuesday
Night Bible Study had last week off due to the E-Terrell event, but
we'll be in full swing this Tuesday at 7:00pm in the fellowship
hall!!! Come and join us for our study, "Next Door
Savior"!!!
The United
Methodist Women will have their next meeting this Wednesday, Sept.
20th, at 2:00pm in the fellowship hall!!! Fall is off to a
great start and we hope every lady at College Mound who is able will
come and make it to the meetings!!!
The Jr. High
UMYF will have their next meeting this Wednesday at 6:30-8:00pm in
the youth center! We'll talk about a number of things - maybe
even sign a "get-well card" for Dakota Brewer, who broke his arm in
his football game and had to have surgery this last week!
Soul Sisters
will also have their next meeting this Wednesday, Sept. 20th, at
6:30pm!!! YES! WE ARE MEETING! SOUL SISTERS HAS STARTED
BACK UP AFTER THE SUMMER BREAK!!! COME AND JOIN
US!!!
Don't forget
next Sunday afternoon, September 24th, is our FAIR FOOD
FESTIVAL!!! Play practice will be from 4:00-4:45pm and we will
have our FAIR FOOD FESTIVAL from 5:00-6:00pm!!! Sausage on a
stick, turkey legs, popcorn, cotton candy, nachos, fries, and CORN
DOGS are all provided for you!!! YOU BRING ANYTHING ELSE THAT
YOU ASSOCIATE AS FOODS OF THE "STATE FAIR OF TEXAS"!!!!! The
King's usually bring Belgian Waffles, some of you have brought
Funnel Cakes, others have even had a go at FRIED TWINKIES!!!
SURPRISE US!!! Bring your version of the foods of the State
Fair of Texas (we will put out the "bowl" for offerings to help with
expenses)!!! AND INVITE AND BRING YOUR
FRIENDS!!!!!
Also a word
about two other special events coming up on Wednesday evenings: -
CANDY APPLE NITE will be on Sept. 27th from 6:00-7:00pm for all
children & their parents; and from 7:00-8:00pm for the Youth
Department! We will supply everything you need and we'll also
watch the Disney cartoon about "Johnny Appleseed"!!!
- BLESSING OF
THE ANIMALS service will be on October 4th at 6:00pm in the parking
area between the sanctuary and education building. If
possible, please have your animals caged, or on a leash, etc.
This will be a short, but very "interesting" service after the
tradition of St. Francis, but adapted from the Book of Worship of
the United Methodist Church! Again, invite and bring your
friends AND YOUR FAVORITE ANIMALS!!!!
OCTOBER-FEST!!! Every Sunday in October is
a Festival!!!
- We
begin with the very meaningful "World Communion Sunday" on October
1st - and don't forget to thank Henri Samuels, who makes a loaf of
bread for EVERY CHILD IN THE CHURCH on this special
occasion!!!
- The next
Sunday, Oct. 8th, is CHILDREN'S SUNDAY, and our entire Children's
Department will be in charge of the whole morning service!!!
They will also host a lunch for us following the morning service of
worship!
- October
15th will be YOUTH SUNDAY at College Mound as our youth will be
responsible for the morning service of worship! What a
dedicated and committed group of youth we have! You don't want
to miss their enthusiasm and energy for worship!!! The Sr.
High UMYF will host an all-you-can-eat HAMBURGER LUNCH immediately
following the morning service. What a great time to invite and
bring others to our church!!!
- LAITY
SUNDAY will be October 22nd! I'm surprised to hear many of you
ask, "What is LAITY SUNDAY?" In a nutshell - YOU ARE!!!
Laity Sunday is that time in the life of the church that we
celebrate YOU! The Laity, not the clergy, will be responsible
for the morning service and bringing the message of what God has
been doing in your lives and in the life of our church!!! Bob
Watson, our Lay Leader, will have a number of you involved in
different ways with the service of worship that
morning!
- And yes,
that afternoon will also be special as we will have a HEALTH FAIR
immediately following the morning service! Sue Hanby and
others are working furiously at this point putting a very
interesting afternoon together! There will be blood pressure
checks, blood sugar testing, lots of brochures and pamphlets to look
at for all sorts of health issues. We may even have the
"Healing Hearts Ministry" girls here! Afterall, health
includes not only physical, but emotional and spiritual issues
too! We may even have some HEALTHY EATING going on for lunch
that day!!!
- October
29th will be the conclusion of our Sunday School Rally Days.
What better time to celebrate our Sunday School than with an ALL
SAINTS CELEBRATION!!! And of course, we will also have our
FALL FESTIVAL THAT AFTERNOON IN THE
PAVILION!!!
- And while
we're at it - let's just remind everyone that November 5th will be
our service of "Dedication for the Lord's Acre Auction
Items"!!!
We
could go on and on, the following after that is our "Celebration
Sunday" following the auction! The Sunday after that is
Thanksgiving Sunday and then we're into the Advent and Christmas
Season!!! In other words, every Sunday is a celebration of the
presence of Christ in our lives!!! They are all
special!!! YOU ARE SPECIAL!!! Please make an effort
wherever you go this week to pass that on to someone else!!!
INVITE AND BRING SOMEONE TO SUNDAY SCHOOL AND CHURCH!!! You
might not only help in changing their lives, but CHANGE THE
WORLD!!!
Larry
HEY
GANG! DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS??? It's time to tell your
nominating committee what job(s) you want to do this coming year as
leaders of the church!!! The forms will be handed out the next
couple of Sundays. Please take the time and effort to look
them over and turn them in at the table in the back of the
sanctuary!!! This is so important as we begin to look ahead to
2007 and our Church's Leadership!!! And we remind you that our
"CHURCH CONFERENCE" will be on Tuesday, November 14th, at 5:00pm in
the fellowship hall!!! Please try to be present!!!! All
reports should be typed and handed in before that
time!!!
Raye Gibson
has shared with us the dates and locations for the "Singing Men of
Texas". They will be at First Baptist in Wills Point on

wonderful group singing and sharing their faith - and Wills Point is

Baptist Church). Come on out and cheer our teams on!!!
And if you'd like to play - there's still time to sign

From Larry, 1/12/06
Volleyball will begin on Monday,
January 23rd!!! Team One will be playing in new digs at the
1st Baptist Church and Team Two will also be playing in a new
location at the TCA (Terrell Christian Academy Gym - also known as
Grace Temple Baptist Church)! If you haven't signed up and
want to play on one of our Volleyball Teams - let me know,
TODAY!
All games (except during the
tournament) will be played on Monday nights.
From Larry, 11/4/05
This will be our last regular season
volleyball play this Monday before our Tournament begins the
following Monday! Come on out and cheer our teams on to V I C
T O R Y!!!
From Larry, 9/21/05
The Sr. High UMYF met Wednesday night
and came up with their plan for the "Fall Festival":
"The Hallway of the Martyred
Saints". What they'll do is look up the Apostles and research
them and present a sketch on each of them - in particular, how they
died for their Lord and the cause "to make disciples to the ends of
the earth"!!! It won't exactly be a "haunted hallway" but
it'll be more than close enough, because as we all know - FACT IS
SCARIER THAN FICTION!!!
The Jr. High UMYF decided they would do
the "Saints OR Sinners" game - which is like a "football toss
through a tire" - because "Saints" are people who follow Jesus so
closely, they never "miss the mark" (which is the literal
translation for "sin").
They also decided to do a "Crown the
Saints" game - which is to ring a "hula-hoop" around a "saint" at
various distances!
The Sr. High UMYF also voted to cut
their meetings back to twice a month, which would be on the same
nights as Soul Sisters meet. So our next meeting will not be
until October 5th, and then on October 19th.
The next Jr. High UMYF meeting will be
this Sunday, September 25th (weather permitting) at 4:00pm (call
Larry or Brenda to see if we will be meeting - Vickie will be out of
town).
The youth department is purchasing
tickets for $10.00 to Six Flags Over Texas. If you would like
to go with the youth group (Jr./Sr. High) when we go for Holiday in
the Park, please let Larry know ASAP so that we can get the tickets
ordered through Lisa Carney!!!!
Christmas Play Practice for
"the COLLEGE MOUND PLAYERS" will begin on Sunday,
October 2nd!!! We will be reviving a Christmas musical first
presented in 1989, when a lot of you were, well, a lot
younger!!! It's a musical about giving, sharing, and just
sharing the gift of Christmas in togetherness presented through the
eyes of a Cat and a Mouse Family!!! So come and join us for
"Not A Creature Was Stirring"!!!
"OPEN HOUSE" in the Youth
Center will take place on Sunday, October 23rd!!!
Come by and see our new youth center - and if you're so inclined,
check out our "needs and wishes" list for the New Youth Center,
'cause it will also be a SHOWER for the new Youth
Center as well!!! Thanks to everyone who has had a hand in
making this wonderful place of ministry to, with, and for youth a
possibility!!!
Don't forget our Church Conference
(Charge Conference) on Sunday, October 16th, at 5:30pm in the
fellowship hall - COVERED DISH SUPPER!!! Our District
Superintendent, the Rev. Mike Nichols will be presiding as we take a
look at all we've accomplished this last year, vote on our church
budget for 2006, as well as take action on the Committee on
Nominations for our church leadership roster for 2006 (just to
mention a few of the items we'll be doing). If you have a
report to present, please have it typed and ready to give to the
District Superintendent. Typically, this meeting doesn't last
over an hour, so please make every effort to be in attendance -
that's why it is a "CHURCH CONFERENCE" and not a
Charge Conference - every person in attendance has a vote and is
important!!!
Snack Supper volunteers are needed for
October 2nd and 9th!!! Please see Larry and let him know if
you would like to serve on one of those dates!!! (The 16th
will be a Covered Dish Supper with the Church Conference, and the
23rd will be our "Open House" at the Youth Center, and the 30th will
be our "Fall Festival" combined with "Fair Food"
Night!)
Both College Mound Volleyball Teams are
still UNDEFEATED!!! Team 2 played a long,
hard three games to finally win over 1st Assembly of God Church
(sorry, Paul)! Team 1 also won at the 1st Christian Church
gym!!! Way to go teams!!! This week team 2 will play at
7:00pm at Poetry Baptist (and call the 2nd game). Team 1 will
also play at 7:00pm at 1st Christian Church! Come and cheer us
on!!!
Our Tuesday Night Bible Study group is
still going strong!!! Each week is a little different lesson,
so don't be bashful about showing up for the first time - or the
fourth!!! We meet from 7:00-8:00pm in the fellowship
hall!!!
Bob's "Monday Sunday School" group is
GROWING!!! There were 17 in attendance at last Monday's
session!!! Come and GROW WITH US!!! The class meets each
Monday at 10:00am at the Colonial Lodge in Terrell (next door to
Windsor Care Center).
From Larry, 9/17/05
Both Volleyball Teams will be back in
action on Monday night. Team 1 plays at 1st Christian Gym at
