It was a really great trip the Sr. High had last week to Galveston ! Hurricane Emily has come just close enough to make the surf really spectacular – 4 to 12 foot waves made for an interesting time in the water – just ask Kevin!

We had a fantastic rainbow – just in time for our first devotion and singing – and everyone appreciated your singing (even Vickie’s) and enthusiasm for “making a joyful noise”!

The guys & girls both enjoyed the “sights” – and we’ll leave them at that!  The high surf made it just a little difficult to make sand castles – you’ve really got to have a beach and SAND to make SAND CASTLES! But in the end, it was determined that the “buoys” won the sandcastle contest and the “gulls” won the beach scavenger hunt!  What was more important was how you all worked TOGETHER AS A TEAM!  All of us were really proud of you all!!!

I hope you also learned something from walking along the Strand, going to the Great Storm exhibit, and especially everyone’s GREAT DEVOTIONS!!!  Now you have an IDEA of what we might do if we go back to Galveston – or even South Padre – in the future!!!  “THANKS” to all those brave souls who went on our trip as adult counselors – and just remember “youth” – one day you will be an “adult” and can volunteer to be a part of a youth trip as one of the adult leaders!!!  (Scary thought!)

JR. HIGH LEAVES FOR GLEN ROSE – “WALKIN’ IN THE TRACKS” TRIP ON FRIDAY AT NOON!!!

The Jr. High UMYF will leave this Friday, July 29th at high noon for their “Walkin’ in the Tracks of Jesus” trip!  Currently there are nine Jr. High youth who will be going to “the Promise”, enjoy a time of swimming, hiking, Fossil Rim Wildlife Park, and the DINOSAUR tracks!  Thanks to Brenda Gonzalez who almost single-handedly put this trip together!!!  So don’t forget that you’ll need a swim suit, sleeping bag (and/or sheets for a twin size bed), towel, pillow, your “personal items” (toothbrush, etc.) AND YOUR BIBLE FOR DEVOTION TIMES!!!  We should return to the church by 8:00pm on Saturday night – SEE YOU THEN!!!

JR. & SR. HIGH YOUTH MEET NEXT WEDNESDAY – AUG. 3RD!!!

Our next youth meeting will be on Wed Aug. 3rd at 7:00pm in the youth room. Please make sure that YOU are in attendance as we will continue to make plans for our BACK TO SCHOOL “ALL NIGHT PARTY”!!!  That will take place beginning on Friday night, Aug. 12th and end on Saturday morning, Aug. 13th!!!  This is the time to really get out and beat the bushes to invite and bring ALL THE FRIENDS YOU CAN!!!  LET’S DO IT!!!

“TAPE & BED” FINISHED IN YOUTH CENTER!!!

The “tape & bed” portion of the work in the youth center is now finished, and all we have to do is wait for the texturing to be done before we can START PAINTING our new youth center!!!  YEAH!!!  We’ll be getting word soon as to when we can get that work under way.  So….what do ya’ll think about “Peptobismal Pink” with purple polka-dots???  Well – do YOU have a better idea???

“SO LONG TO BAILLIE, ANTHONY, AND ALEX!!!”

Baillie is now back at her home in Conroe (remember going through there on the way to and from Galveston?) and Alex & Anthony will be leaving this weekend for their new home near San Antonio (hey – I can see us going to the River Walk).  We’ve really enjoyed their company and will miss them and all their hard work in so many different areas.  We’ll try to have their addresses so ya’ll can keep in touch – and we hope they will do the same!!!  “Via con Dios, Ya’ll!!!”  (Go with God for all those illiterates)

“RELAY FOR LIFE” THIS FRIDAY & SATURDAY

Registration for the “Relay for Life” walk will begin at 5:00pm at the Herman Furlough School in Terrell.  Please bring comfortable shoes & maybe even a change of shoes and socks as you WILL BE WALKING ALL NIGHT.  You might want to also bring some spending money for snack, drinks, etc. during the night.  There will be lots of entertainment, games, and other activities – including the cancer survivors walk and the memorial walk as we remember those who have lost the battle to cancer.

This is SO IMPORTANT – so please be a part of the Relay for Life 2005 walk to CURE CANCER.

PROMOTION SUNDAY JUNE 5TH

We will promote those going into the 6th grade next year this Sunday, June 5th, so that you will officially become a part of the YOUTH DEPARTMENT in both Sunday School, as well as the United Methodist Youth Fellowship.  The Jr. High Class – grades 6 through 8, meet with Brenda Gonzalez and Shanna Stanbrough.  The Sr. High Class – grades 9 through 12 – will be moving into the new youth center as soon as it becomes available – or if the weather permits us using it in the meantime.   Otherwise, we’ll meet in the fellowship hall until it does become available.

HAMBURGER LUNCH FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 12TH!!!

Our next fundraiser dinner will be on Sunday, June 12th, immediately following the morning service of worship.  We’ll have hamburgers with all the trimmin’s, fries, onion rings, and desserts (you should bring the dessert of your choice).  We’ll use the funds to help with our summer events and the youth center.

FATHER’S DAY, JUNE 19TH!!!

Don’t forget that Father’s Day will be Sunday, June 19th.  We’ll honor all the “men” of the church with a special gift that day.  We will also try to have special “parts” for members of the youth department to provide during the service of worship that day.  Don’t miss it – and DON’T FORGET TO SAY “HAPPY FATHER’S DAY” to someone special.

“Harry Potter” Anyone?

The newest “Harry Potter” book is scheduled to be released in July.  Are you planning to read it???  You think the youth department should purchase a book to put in our library?  Let us know.  What about a “Harry Potter” movie night to watch ALL THREE???

JR. HIGH LOSS IS SR. HIGH’S GAIN!!!

The Jr. High department LOST the contest at our end of school party last Friday night – which means that at our next movie night they must wait on the Sr. High members “hand and foot”.  But don’t despair – thoughts are already in the work to provide another “contest of skill” to see if the Jr. High can better the Sr. High….  I wonder what the “game” might be????

WORSHIP AT WINDSOR ON JUNE 12TH!!!

Our next scheduled time of worship with the residents of Windsor Care Center will be Sunday, June 12th, at 2:30pm in the afternoon.  Since this is the closest Sunday before “Father’s Day,” don’t you think it might be a good idea to take some sort of “gift” to give to the male residents???  Let us know what you think.

“FISHES & LOAVES” PROGRAM TO BEGIN!!!

(Okay – so read John 6:1-15)

Faith is sometimes taking what you have and letting God use it for others.  That’s what our “Fishes & Loaves” can do for others who might need a “treat” during these long hot days of summer.  It might take many different shapes and forms, but the results will be the same – to reach out to others and offer them “food” in whatever way we can.  If you have a person or persons you think we ought to “reach out to” during the months ahead, let us know.  If they have a special “need” we can help out with – let us know.  It may be yard work, homemade cookies, or even sandwiches served with a smile.  It might be cleaning a house or just “spending time” with someone who’s lonely.  Whatever it is, it will become something MIRACULOUS WHEN PUT INTO JESUS’ HANDS…

SUMMER MEETING SCHEDULE for UMYF TO BE DETERMINED!!!

We will determine what our meeting schedule is during the next couple of meetings – every week, once every two weeks, EVERY DAY – you’ll help decide.  But for now, the schedule is:

June 1, 2005 – 7:00-8:00pm (youth room)

June 15th – 7:00-8:00pm (youth room)
